Sewing patterns from Burda, Vogue, McCalls, Butterick and Kwiksew
When it comes to sewing patterns we mostly rely on well-known brands like burda or vogue – we do however also stock smaller suppliers in order to offer you a wide variety of great sewing patterns. Therefore you shouldn’t have any problems, finding a great pattern for your next sewing project.
Sewing patterns for ladies and gents
Our selection of patterns includes many great designs for men as well as for women. We tried to cover everything you might like to add to your wardrobe, may it be a sweater, a hoodie, a dress, a bag or a pair of trousers. Just stroll through the different patterns and decide which one is going to be your next favourite.
Sewing patterns for kids and babys
Sewing for the little ones is always particularly enjoyable, which is why we took extra care of adding some lovely sewing patterns for babies, kids as well as teenagers. You’ll surely find the one you’re looking for and more – why not start a project for a cuddly toy that matches the newly created piece of garment?
Plus size sewing patterns
We not only offer a wide variety of patterns, we also offer them in a wide range of sizes. There are many plus size patterns for example that will surely compliment every pretty curve that you’ve got!
Free patterns and tutorials
We also offer many free sewing patterns and diy tutorials that you can easily find in the free sewing patterns category. Just print out your favourite pattern and start your next project.
How to choose the right size
When it comes to picking the right size it is important to remember that sizes can vary just like they do in regular clothing stores. Different pattern brands will have different standards in clothing-sizes – always use the size-chart as a guide on which size to choose. If possible, ask a friend or even a tailor to take your measurements and compare them to the size-chart. After you have decided on a size, you simply have to look it up on the pattern sheet – different sizes have different-looking lines (dotted, dashed, broken etc.). Each size is assigned to one specific line-design. Just make sure that you stick to one size for all pattern pieces as they won’t fit together otherwise. Note: Each size has individual knotches and markings – make sure you copy the right one.
Can I adjust the pattern?
Some patterns have markings, which indicate where adjustments can be made. Adjustments are generally possible in terms of length of for example sleeves, legs or torsos.
Which materials do I need?
Most sewing patterns come with a list of required materials; these not only specify the amount of fabric needed for each size of the pattern but also, which haberdashery (zipper, buttons, elastics, interfacing etc.) will be used. Before you start with your project, make sure that you have all the necessary materials available (including thread, machine needles etc.) – nothing is more annoying than finding out that something is missing in the middle of a project.
How to apply the pattern to the fabric?
All sewing patterns include grain lines on each pattern piece. These serve as guide when it comes to applying the pattern pieces onto the fabric – the grain line on your pattern pieces should always be parallel to the actual grain line of the fabric. The arrows of all your pieces should point into the same direction. This is especially important when it comes to fabrics with a pattern or a warp. Many pattern companies like burda style or vogue even have technical drawings on how to arrange the pattern pieces on the fabric. There are several methods to prevent your pattern-pieces from moving: weights, fabric-pins or fabric-clips. You could also trace the pattern pieces with tailor’s chalk or a fabric marker directly onto the fabric. Which of these methods is the most suitable for your project is depending on the quality and type of your fabric. Very thin and slippery fabrics for example could tear when treated with pins that are too thick – we have instructions on how to cut the material for most of our products.
